Saraburi Sunflowers

"Flowers have an expression of countenance as much as men or animals. Some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others again are plain, honest and upright, like the broad-faced sunflower and the hollyhock. " ~Henry Ward Beecher, Star Papers: A Discourse of Flowers

Apparently, we're not the only visitors...

Glowing flowers

Take 1: I was walking home with a friend after a looooong day at the office....passed by this tree and couldn't resist taking a picture of the flowers all nicely lit up by a street lamp. As I was commenting to my friend, you know you have no life when you go around "smelling the flowers" at night... :)

Take 2: with flash...sometimes less is more....

Destressing Techniques

After a tough week, flower arranging is my "cable a tierra"... in my feeble ikebana-wannabe style (my short-lived ikebana course teacher once commented on one of my (I had hoped!) "ikebana" arrangements: "It ok, but it western. Come, everybody. I show you western way. It very easy!"...and so, culture creeps into everything...even when I was consciously trying to be ikebanaish...sigh...

Tree on fire...

My favorite flowery tree...(and it also has those wonderful pods!)...at the entrance to the campus. I'd never seen such a profusion of flowery trees as I've seen here in Thailand.

If I were a make-believe-artist....

...I'd make you believe this was an art piece! But since I'm not, I'll post the "real" work of art, as found in nature in the next post.
